Summer Scholars
Summer Scholars is offered to
students who would benefit from continued
academic stimulation throughout the summer
months. Maintaining knowledge learned and
previewing academics for the coming school year
are designed to help a student to start the new
year with confidence. Our Summer Scholars
classes “nourish” the brain with fun but
structured lessons. Students earn prizes for
completing home assignments and for good class
participation. Class sizes are limited,
allowing for directed attention to individual
student needs. A licensed certified
speech-language pathologist teaches the class,
with a graduate student serving as an assistant
when the pupil/teacher ratio is more than 1 to
3. Summer Scholars is a tuition based
educational program. Insurance is not filed for
children opting to participate in this program.
Summer Scholars is divided into
three academic groups. Academic Scholars
meets once a week for 6 weeks for a 2 ½
hour session. Grade levels offered include
pre-K for students entering kindergarten, as
well as all elementary grades, through pre-5th.
All academics (math, reading, writing, spelling,
vocabulary, etc.) are presented in the
Academic Scholars. Curriculum is based
on the Tennessee State Department of Education
Standards.
Reading Scholars
is offered for students who need a specific
boost in reading skills. Students are grouped
according to ability level and specific needs.
The Reading Scholars program
provides instruction to improve decoding skills
and rate and fluency of reading. During the
course of fun, structured lessons, strategies
are taught to enhance reading comprehension.
Classes meet once a week for six weeks and last
1 to 2 hours depending on the size of the group
and the individual student needs.
Writing Scholars
is offered for those students who
need specific help in improving written language
skills. The classes meet once a week for six
weeks and last from 1 to 2 hours depending on
the size of the group and individual needs.
Writing Scholars is especially
helpful in preparing students for the increased
writing demands of writing paragraphs, essays
and reports.
