Interactive Metronome
Helen Duhon & Associates
offers therapy using the Interactive Metronome
in both the Franklin and Nashville clinics.
Speech-language pathologists and occupational
therapists have been trained and are certified
to provide this unique approach as part of a
traditional therapy program.
The Interactive Metronome
is a research based intervention program that
has proven of benefit to children and adults
with a range of neuro-rehabilitative and
developmental learning disabilities. The
program is designed to strengthen processing
abilities which in turn, improve attention,
language processing, sequencing, motor planning,
fundamental cognitive abilities and impulse
control.
Treatment tasks are
presented in a hierarchical fashion,
progressively challenging the individual to fine
tune their processing abilities. Tasks require
that the individual synchronize motor movement(s)
with a computer generated beat presented through
headphones. A crucial element of this program
is the provision of audio and visual feedback to
encourage the individual to adjust their
performance to achieve greater task
proficiency. Advanced tasks incorporate motor
sequences, visual only mode to strengthen visual
processing, distractions, cognitive switching
and divided attention skills.
Appropriate therapy
candidates include, but are not limited to,
those with the following:
Sensory Integration Disorders, ADHD, Traumatic
Brain Injury (TBI), Stroke, Autism Spectrum
Disorder (ASD), Cerebral Palsy, Non-verbal
Learning Disability, Balance Disorders, and
Parkinson’s Disease.
In treatment, patients learn to:
Focus and attend for longer periods of time
Increase physical endurance and stamina
Filter out internal and external distractions
Improve ability to self-monitor mental
performance
Progressively improve coordinated performance
for both motor and cognitive tasks
